About this episode

I’ve been doing this online business thing for a few years now, and during that time, I’ve watched a lot of businesses and bloggers come and go.

But then there are those businesses that seem to be here to stay! Ever wonder what sets them apart?

Lucky for you, I’ve been keeping mental notes on what these successful online business owners all seem to have in common, and in this episode, I want to share those findings with you!

But first, a little disclaimer:

Don’t see yourself in this list? Not to worry!

If you caught Episode 001 of the podcast, you’ll remember that I had exactly 0 experience with online business when I first got my start.

It is entirely possible to reproduce each and every one of these 6 qualities in your own life, even if you’ve never done anything like it before!

(Proof of that around the 01:54 mark of today’s episode.)

6 signs you’ll be a massive success with your online business

1. You make the decision to make it work (02:44)

Come hell or high water, you’re committed to making this happen. How did you arrive at this decision?

A) Your boss is a complete ***hole

B) You hate being poor

C) You hate your soul-sucking 9-5 and you’d like more than a measly two weeks vacation each year.

D) All of the above.

Whatever the reason, you’ve decided you’re all in on this online business thing and you’re never looking back.

So many successful business owners I’ve met or chatted with have had this in common. They hated the situation they were in and decided enough was enough.

They decided: I’m not settling for this. This is not okay with me anymore.

And then they made it a priority to create for themselves a new set of circumstances – one they could be happy with!

When you make something your priority, you’re going to find the time and the resources and the power within yourself to make it successful.

2. you Adopt the mindset of a successful person (04:35)

The people who start the most successful of online businesses tend to be the ones with a this is possible for me mindset. They believe that they have can impact their own future.

So, if you want to be successful, stop listening to the haters…even if that hater is you!

Going back to Episode 001, when I first tried (and failed) to start a successful online business, I allowed my mind to do some pretty serious self-sabotage, sending me straight back to a part time job working for someone else. Not exactly #goals.

So what changed in round 2?

I found my fight! I committed to doing everything I could when it came to personal development, and became the gatekeeper of my own mind, deciding which thoughts I would allow to enter in.

Is this thought true?

Is this thought serving me?

If the answer wasn’t a resounding yes, then I’d tell that thought to take a hike (and replace it with a more positive one)!

I did this again. And again. And again.

As many times as it would take! The way that I learned to do this was actually from a few personal development books.

Here’s my quick list of recommended reading, if you’re interested:

These books go into significantly more depth and detail into what is happening in your mind and how to think yourself into a really positive place!

3. You are willing to do the uncomfortable (06:40)

“A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.” – Tim Ferris, The The 4-Hour Workweek (that’s an affiliate link!)

Honestly? When I first read this book, I thought it was malarkey.

I had not yet begun my online business journey, and had no frame of reference other than the standard 9-5. In my mind, a 4-hour workweek was utter nonsense, and simply not possible.

Thankfully, I have since revisited Tim’s book, and have seen how the things we find uncomfortable are actually the things we need to be doing the most.

Hitting publish on that first blog post? Uncomfortable.

Hosting your first webinar? Uncomfortable.

Starting again with my online business when the first time I tried to go full-time had been a total flop?

Un-com-fort-able (to say the least). But I did it anyway!

I knew I needed guidance if I was going to get it right, so I took an online course and committed to doing whatever it told me to do. I was willing to do whatever it took at that point!

When I came up against a recommendation that made me want to run under my covers, I would remind myself of one simple truth: The business needs it.

Then I would do the thing. Forget fear, or the fact that I felt like I was going to puke the 24hrs leading up to it…I was going to host that webinar!

And you know what? The more often you do the uncomfortable, the easier it becomes.

4. You Make decisions before you feel ready (09:25)

Remember when you quit your 9-5 because you were tired of answering to another person, and you were ready to become your own boss?

That’s where the hand-holding ended. Ready or not, you’re the boss now, and you call the shots in your business.

If you feel totally clueless, and you wish someone would just come along and tell you exactly what to do to make your business successful, I’m sorry to tell you that that person does not exist (and even if they did, it would still be you).

You determine where to spend your hours, days, weeks, and months in your business. There’s nobody peering over your shoulder to check on your work, so you need to be serious about waking up every single day, sitting down to your laptop and following through on your game plan of tasks without anyone telling you to do it.

5. You show up consistently (10:29)

I often find myself wondering why I’m not as fit as I’d like to be. The answer is pretty obvious – I don’t go to the gym or eat healthfully as consistently as someone who looks like a 10 in a bikini.

But my less than consistent track record with this does not mean that I can’t learn to show up well in other areas of my life. Look at the blog! I have consistently cranked out two posts a week for over 2 years now, and just recently committed to doing the same (once weekly) with the podcast!

So even if you’ve never been one to follow through, don’t beat yourself up or doubt your ability because of past experience.

Decide what you want, and then commit to being consistent with that one thing, even when you have yet to see results.

The successful online business owners you see in your Insta feed did not suddenly find their success overnight. They are not showing up one day when they want to sell you something, and disappearing the next. They are in your life consistently, providing new, valuable information and opportunities for connection.

6. You keep going (no matter what)(12:04)

What separates the successful entrepreneurs from those who aren’t?

They keep going.

They fall down five times and get up six.

When everyone in their corner is saying they should just give up the fight, they jump straight back in the ring for another round.

And they never stop, even once they find success!

This is the key is to building a very successful business. Outpace the others, and just keep on going when everyone else stops.

It’s my goal to help as many go-getter girls just like yourself to ditch their 9-5 and get on with living their best life, and as it turns out, the iTunes Gods love reviews just as much as I love frozen margs.

Your review directly helps me to win over the iTunes Gods and get this show in front of more girls just like you!

So thanks in advance for leaving a review, I’m so grateful to you! (Oh and the girl sitting bored to tears at her desk right now currently planning her escape, she’s grateful to you too.)
